Bemerkungen/Beschreibung
In: Thaler, Konrad (Red.): Diversität und Biologie von Webspinnen, Skorpionen und anderen Spinnentieren.- Linz: Biologiezentrum des OÖ. Landesmuseums, 2004, p 441-458 (Denisia. 12.) (Kataloge der OÖ. Landesmuseen / N.S. 14.) Three species of the family Euscorpiidae occur in Austria: Euscorpius germanus (C. L. KOCH 1837), E. gamma Di CAPORIACCO 1950 and E. tergestinus (C. L. KOCH 1837). 157 historical (before 1970) and 367 recent datasets (n = 524) and 894 specimens were analysed by means of an access database; 40 datasets concern introduced scorpions, especially E. italicus (HERBST 1800), E. tergestinus and E. germanus. Euscorpius germanus is distributed in southwestern Carinthia and Eastern Tyrol between 510 and 2170 metres above sea level; along the big valleys of the rivers Moll and Isel it reaches the southern slopes of the Central Alps. In Northern Tyrol the species is known from five localities along the Inn valley, which include the northernmost natural scorpion records in Europe (Walchsee, 47degree39' N, 12degree19' E). Remarkable is the occurrence of E. germanus in a mossy rivulet bank in Western Carinthia and the use of higher strata (bark of Pinto sylvestris trunks) during the night. Euscorpius gamma occurs in a limited area in south eastern Carinthia (Karawanken and Steiner Alps) from 470 up to 1840 metres above sea level and reaches with the Drau river the northern border of its distribution. The unclear situation concerning the occurrence of scorpions in Styria could be solved due to a recent record of E. gamma from the ruin Schmirnberg close to the Slovenian border. In spite of several historical records of scorpions around the city of Graz till the 1920ies, preserved specimens and recent records are lacking. Euscorpius tergestinus, a member of the split up E. carpathicus complex, inhabits the Austrian localities Unterfederaun/Graschelitzen, Warmbad Villach and Hochosterwitz in Carinthia and the city of Krems in Lower Austria. ...
