Berichte des Naturwissenschaftlich-Medizinischen Vereins in Innsbruck
, 84: p 111-131 The oribatid mite fauna in the Glanzer Au, a periodically flooded riverine forest along the river Isel in Eastern Tyrol, has been investigated. A total of 84 species was recorded. Four species (Phthiracarus clavatus PARRY, 1979, Phthiracarus nitens (NICOLET, 1855), Cepheus grandis SITNIKOVA, 1975, and Subiasella quadrimaculata (EVANS 1952)) are new records for Austria, thirteen additional species were recorded for Eastern Tyrol for the first time. Most of the species have a wide distribution (european: 12, holarctic s.l.: 47, semicosmopolitan: 10 species). The species composition was compared with the oribatid fauna from other riverine forests in the Alps and shows species similarities ranging from 27 to 41%. The general distribution and the habitat preferences of Oribatida in riverine forests are discussed. The investigation area hosts mainly eurytopic and silvicolous resp. hygrophilous species, but also several inhabitants of open and xeric areas.
