Bemerkungen/Beschreibung
Articulata, 18(2): p 179-191 From 02. 06.09.1994 the short term mobility of two grasshopper species, Chorthippus parallelus (Zetterstedt) and Gomphocerus sibiricus (L.), was investigated in the Hohe Tauern mountains (Austria) at 2300 m above sea level. Altogether 120 adults were marked individually and with reflective tape. Fifteen females and males each were released at two habitat plots (Curvulo Nardetum) and surveyed during night observations with head lamps. The resight rate amounted to 73% of the marked adults. G. sibiricus was the more mobile species of both. The mean daily movement for both species was between 2.3 10.4 m, the maximum reached 21.3 m. The mean activity radius reached 4.8 21.7 m, the maxima more than 50 m. In Ch. parallelus the mean daily movement of males, but not of females, differed significantly between the habitat plots. During the night observations most of the grasshoppers settled in the lower vegetation up to 5 cm height, and G. sibiricus was found more frequently on the ground than Ch. parallelus.
